Call Tracking, Covered: What Your Plan Should Include

Searches for "covered call tracking software" usually mean one of two things: tracking included with the number plan rather than sold separately, or the total cost covered upfront. Here is what a plan should cover, what ours does, and what nothing can.

Coverage questions

Is call tracking covered by the number plan?

Call tracking is its own product with per-number plans — from $2 a month — while the tracking numbers themselves carry the same call handling (routing, overflow, recording) as any inbound number. Check which layer each quote is pricing.

What should a plan cover as standard?

The per-number call log, reports over time, answered-versus-missed data, and recording playback where enabled. Features central to the product should not reappear as per-seat or per-report add-ons.

What does "covered" never include?

Call time. Every plan bills the calls that arrive — per second against per-minute rates. A quote that buries call-data charges is not covering your cost; it is deferring it.

How do I compare "covered" claims between vendors?

Normalise for your volume: N tracking numbers and M minutes a month, priced all-in. Any vendor who cannot answer that figure in one line is selling complexity, not coverage.

"Covered" is not a standard term in call tracking — which is exactly why it is worth defining before you buy. Vendors use it to mean anything from "the dashboard is included" to "everything except the parts that cost extra". The useful definition: a plan covers the features the product cannot function without, priced upfront, with nothing essential held back as an add-on. This page applies that definition to call tracking and shows what it covers on our plans — and what no plan anywhere can cover.

What a call tracking plan should cover

By the functional definition, a covered plan includes:

  • The per-number call log — the events that make attribution possible. This is the product; charging for it separately would be charging for the product twice.
  • Reporting over time — calls per number per period, comparable across campaigns, exportable. A report locked behind a higher tier is a demo, not a feature.
  • Answered-versus-missed data — table stakes for any business that answers phones.
  • Recording playback where enabled — the quality half of the log, with consent obligations observed.
  • Number management — adding numbers, re-pointing answer points, without per-change fees.

That is the coverage test. Apply it to any vendor's feature grid, ours included, and the add-on theatre becomes visible quickly.

What ours covers, stated plainly

Call tracking plans start at $2 a month per number and include the full reporting suite — call volume per number over time, answered and missed calls, durations, and recording playback where recording is enabled — with assistance available for putting the numbers on your website. Numbers are available from 40+ regions. Call time is not part of the monthly fee anywhere in the market, and it is not here either: calls are billed per second against per-minute rates that vary by plan and by whether the caller is on a fixed line or a mobile. The full table is on the pricing page, and the reason call data sits outside any plan fee is economics, not fine print — it scales with your enquiries, and bundling it would just move the same cost into a bluer number.

The total-cost exercise that replaces trust

Coverage claims are best verified with one line of arithmetic. Take your actual shape — say five tracking numbers and 400 minutes a month, a quarter of them mobile — and ask every vendor, including us, for the all-in monthly figure at that shape. Vendors whose "covered" pricing survives that question are worth shortlisting; vendors who answer with tiers, conditions and a call-back are showing you the fine print early, which is at least honest. The deeper comparison method is in comparing call tracking competitors, and the cheapest-end economics in cheap call tracking software.

What no plan can cover

Two things sit outside every plan, and honest pages say so. Attribution depth: number-based tracking covers campaign-level attribution only — keyword- and session-level detail is the dynamic number insertion category, a different product evaluated in what a call tracking system is. CRM integration: there is no automatic connector; the data paths into your CRM by habit or by an API build, as covered in call tracking and your CRM. Everything else the product does — the log, the reports, the recordings — is covered at $2 a number, and the model itself is on call tracking.
